Fotografie und Bewegtbilder dienen längst nicht mehr nur als Abbilder der Realität oder als Dokumentation, um Augenblicke langfristig festzuhalten. "This exhibition focuses on photographic works that may strike the viewer as strange, that make them pause. Images that significantly unsettle us sometimes force us to stop and look more closely. They can evoke unease and wonder, but also amazement and curiosity. All of this, in turn, leads to a deeper engagement with the image and stimulates reflection." Die Maske der Ästhetik – Andreas Gefeller und Andreas Zimmermann
April 27—May 25, 2025

"The works of Andreas Gefeller and Andreas Zimmermann are thematically linked by their focus on phenomena resulting from the influence of civilisation on natural cycles. The photographic artists, who are friends from Düsseldorf, use aesthetic pictorial means to process and make accessible complex and unwieldy topics such as environmental pollution, global warming and the change in perception in times of digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The works combine aesthetics and criticism in a way that places the viewer in a field of tension between fascination and discomfort." (Kunstverein Heinsberg)

Energie – Andreas Gefeller und Beate Gütschow
April 13—November 2, 2025

"Artificial light defines the urban night and radiates up to the clouds, which glow in Andreas Gefeller's large-scale photographs with treacherous seductive power. Beate Gütschow takes her photographic diary to the source of energy production in the Rhineland and documents the resistance to open-cast mining in a participatory manner. The result is an unusual dialogue of contemporary photography." (Raketenstation)

Paradise sunset or urban light emissions? In my new series Aurora Urbanis I photograph the cloudy night sky, which becomes a projection surface for the artificial light emitted by cities. In the best sense, the images are photographic, »painted with light«, and yet they seem like the result of a computer-generated process—promising, but too good to be true.
I am excited that a first large-format work will be on show at Art Düsseldorf and Art Brussels.
